A compendium of juridical principles regarding online child sexual abuse has been launched
"The issue of online sexual abuse of children is a challenge for law enforcement and the justice system. More so considering that there is no analysis and research on this subject, capacity-building activities for professionals are extremely rare, and awareness campaigns are almost absent," states Daniela Misail-Nichitin, Executive Director of International La Strada.
Today we hosted a seminar in which we launched a teaching material that addresses juridical principles regarding some forms of sexual abuse of children.
The compendium of juridical principles and best practices "Sexual abuse and exploitation of children with the use of information and communication technologies" is the result of an analysis of the national legal framework and international standards in the field. It is the first product of this kind in our country, which also involves a comparative analysis of several studies and activity reports of institutions responsible to prevent and combat the phenomenon of sexual abuse and exploitation of children in the online environment, such as INTERPOL, EUROPOL, INHOPE, ICMEC, etc.
In her greeting message at the opening of the event, Anne Coleman-Honn, Political-Economic Section Chief at the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, said "The U.S. Embassy is very proud to support this project. Combating human trafficking is a priority for the U.S. Embassy, which is why we are partners with La Strada and collaborate on the prevention and combating of sexual exploitation." Children are the future of this country and the future of all of us. Online platforms are perfect for learning, as they offer unlimited access to information resources but they also create vulnerabilities. It is essential to provide adults and children with tools and solutions to prevent risk situations for children.
The event is part of a broader project implemented by IC ‘La Strada’ that aims to strengthen the skills of professionals from the Republic of Moldova involved in combating online sexual abuse and exploitation of children. The project is financially supported by the U.S. State Department through the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau.
