How to approach child online safety at online parent meetings-webinars for teachers
The school remains a trusted partner for parents, guiding them and helping them observe, recognize, and constructively react to unpleasant situations that the child may go through online.
At yesterday's webinars, which we organized for primary school teachers, our colleagues from the Issues Affecting Children Program presented useful tools and advice that teachers can use during parent meetings on the subject of child online safety. As the head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, William Massolin mentioned, today, when everyone can use technology responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively, the collaboration between parents, teachers, specialists and development partners is essential to ensure a safe virtual space for children.
It is important that parents are aware of all the risks of the online environment and that they possess the appropriate knowledge and skills to prevent and intervene in cases of online child sexual abuse or exploitation. At the same time, parents are encouraged to monitor their own behaviors when sharing images or using digital technologies, said the head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau.
Natalia GRÎU, State Secretary in the field of Education, Ministry of Education, Culture and Research during the greeting at the opening of the webinar, mentioned:
"Safer Internet Day is the day when we should think, once again, about how important it is to train and inform young people and provide support platforms for the sad situations where they become victims of online harassment, online blackmail, personal data theft, or other unpleasant experiences they may be facing, which neither the family nor the school could prepare them for."
We remind you that the information activities for parents and trainings for teachers in the field of online safety are organized by IC La Strada Moldova, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, under the financing agreement within the Council of Europe Project "Combating violence against children in the Republic of Moldova."
The next webinar for teachers will take place on February 16, at 16:00.
