21 teachers shared their experience in teaching the “Harmonious family relationships” course

Teachers from 21 education institutions gathered at a workshop to share their experience in teaching the optional course “Harmonious family relationships”. From the beginning of the current study year these teaching staff have been talking to students about how to manage their feelings, how to communicate in a couple, and also how to recognize and avoid cases of violence.

The workshop was moderated by the psychologist Tatiana Turchina and aimed at guiding the teachers to make them confident and prepared to talk to children about the nature of an abusive relationship, perception of sexuality, manifestation of dependent relationships and the cyclic nature of domestic violence.

“Usually, successful understanding of information almost totally depends on the engagement of the teacher while presenting the information. All our work would be such an unjustified sacrifice, if standing in front of teenagers, teachers wouldn’t have been “equipped” with sufficient arguments for eliminating stereotypes. For the moment, we can observe an authentic interest from the teaching staff and we appreciate that this interest is constant, ever since this idea was just put on paper, and until now, when the course became autonomous and functional. We organized a training course for teachers in August, now we are having this experience exchange, and we will also organize other meetings, as often as it is necessary, in order to ensure that when teachers talk to teenagers, they can operate with sufficient facts, so that no question is lacking an answer”, says Daniela Misail-Nichitin, Director of Women’s Program at the International Center “La Strada”.

The course "Harmonious family relationships" was developed by the International Center "La Strada" and approved by the National Curriculum Council of the Ministry of Education. From the beginning of the school year, it was included in the study program for 2016-2017 as an optional course for high-school.
